How to Replace Steelcase Leap V2 Arm Pads

Steelcase calls them arm caps, and on the Leap V2 they are one of the first parts to show their age. The good news is you do not need to take the arm off the chair: the pad comes off the top of the arm with four screws. This works on both height-adjustable and fully adjustable Leap V2 arms.

What you will need

• A Torx T20 screwdriver or bit.
• A towel or blanket, if you want to lay the chair on its side.
• The Steelcase Leap V2 replacement arm pads. Screws are not included, because you reuse the originals.

Step by step

1. Raise the arm to its highest setting so you can see under the pad, or lay the chair on its side.
2. Undo the four screws under the pad and keep them together.
3. Lift the old pad off the arm.
4. Place the new pad on the arm. It may not sit completely flat at first. Hold one end down and press firmly on the other until it drops into place.
5. Start the screws diagonally. Put one corner screw in loosely, then the opposite corner, then the other two. Leaving the first ones slightly loose makes the last holes much easier to line up.
6. Tighten all four until snug, then repeat on the other arm.

Good to know

• If the arm itself wobbles or will not lock at a height, the pad is not the cause. Email us and we will point you to the right part.
• Use a hand screwdriver. The screws go into plastic and strip easily.
