How to Replace Herman Miller Mirra 1 Arm Pads

The rounded arm pads on the original Mirra are a common part to wear out: the vinyl cracks at the front edge and the pad goes hard. Each pad is held on by two Torx screws from underneath, and the swap takes a few minutes per arm.

Mirra 1 or Mirra 2?

These pads fit the Mirra 1 (made from 2003 to about 2013). The Mirra 2 has a different arm and pad. The easiest way to tell them apart is the back. The Mirra 1 back is one solid plastic panel with a pattern of holes. The Mirra 2 back is split into two "wings" down the middle. If in doubt, check the label under the seat or email us a photo.

What you will need

• A Torx T20 screwdriver or bit.
• A towel or blanket to lay the chair on.
• The Mirra 1 replacement arm pads. Screws are not included, because you reuse the originals.

Step by step

1. Lay the chair on its side on a towel, or raise the arm to its highest point.
2. Undo the two screws under the pad with the T20 driver. Keep them safe.
3. Lift the old pad off.
4. Line up the new pad. The pads are shaped left and right, so hold each one against the arm to check the curve matches before fitting.
5. Start the screws by hand so the pad stays in line, then tighten until snug. Use a hand screwdriver, not a drill.
6. Repeat on the other side and check both pads are solid.

Good to know

• If the pad sits at an angle, one screw has usually gone in crooked. Back both out a turn, line the pad up and tighten again.
• If the arm height will not lock, or the arm moves where it joins the seat, the pad is not the problem. Email us.
