How to Replace Herman Miller Aeron Remastered Arm Pads

The Aeron Remastered (2016 onwards) uses a different arm pad from the Classic, and it is fitted differently too. Each pad is held by a single screw at the front and hooks over a tab at the back. Once you know about the tab it is a five-minute job; without knowing it, it is easy to think the pad is stuck.

Will these pads fit my chair?

These pads fit the Aeron Remastered chair and stool in all sizes, on fixed arms and on adjustable arms. They do not fit the Aeron Classic. If you are not sure which you have, see Aeron Remastered vs Classic.

What you will need

• A Torx T25 screwdriver or bit.
• A towel or blanket to lay the chair on.
• The Aeron Remastered replacement arm pads. Screws are not included, because you reuse your originals.

Removing the old pad

1. Lay the chair on its side on a towel so you can reach under the arm.
2. Undo the screw under the pad with the T25 driver. If your chair has adjustable arms, a small cover under the pad will come loose as the pad comes off. Keep it, as it goes back on later.
3. Lift the front of the pad and slide it backwards. This frees the back of the pad from the tab on the arm. Do not lever it straight up, or you can snap the tab.

Fitting the new pad

4. Hook the back in first. Slide the pocket at the back of the new pad over the tab on the arm.
5. Lower the front of the pad down onto the arm.
6. Refit the screw with the T25 driver until snug. Do not overtighten.
7. On adjustable arms, refit the cover you removed in step 2.
8. Repeat on the other side, then stand the chair up and check that neither pad moves.

If the arm itself is the problem

If the arm slips down, will not lock at a height, or wobbles where the pad meets the arm, the problem is inside the arm. The Aeron Remastered arm mechanism kit replaces those parts, and fits the left or right arm on sizes A, B and C.
